Humboldt Workshop, Inc. began services to people with intellectual and physical disabilities in April of 1981 from the former Knights Building on Hwy 169. In 1982 Residential Care Facility Services began with the opening of the Group Home on 302 9th St, Humboldt, Iowa. A new renovated building was purchased and opened in 1986 at 21 Taft Street North, Humboldt for Work Activity and offices.
Supervised Community Living Services were added as a service with the opening of the first residential home in 1989. Growth continued with the building of an apartment building and another home purchased in 1990 for residential care. As additional residential service expanded, so did work activity. Supported Employment started in 1989 as an innovative idea of training people with disabilities on community job sites.
In 1996 the facility received Home Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver Certification in Supported Community Living Services both daily and hourly, Respite, and Supported Employment. As part of the HCBS Waiver Certification programs such as Home and Vehicle Modification, and Personal Emergency Response Systems were added. May of 1998 began the transfer of residential care services to HCBS Waiver program services. Today all residential services are Home Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver programs. Other Waiver programs offered by West Fork Services include Community Integration, Employment Services such as Job Development, Job Supports, and Job Site Planning.
As part of continued expansion, West Fork Services partnered with the State of Iowa and an investor group Enterprise to build 18 new apartments and refurbish one home for the intellectually and physically handicapped. West Fork also has changed it work activity at the Workshop from sorting cans to work such as repackaging Coffee for Jumpy Monkey, assembling items for Oriental Trading, and confidential document shredding. West Fork contracts with area businesses for Supported Employment cleaning services.
On October 1, 2008, Humboldt Workshop, Inc changed its name to West Fork Services, Inc. West Fork holds a Three Year CARF Accreditation meeting internationally recognized standards of quality in the provision of outcomes-driven programs and services to enhance the lives of the persons served. |
